By Kristi Patrice Carter
Many people are not aware that obesity plays a huge role with high blood pressure. The more obese a person is the high their blood pressure may be. More and more people in the United States are tipping the scales well over the recommended weight for their age and body frame. Many medical facilities are urging people to start eating healthy as well as incorporating some form of exercise into their daily regimen to help reduce the risk of becoming obese and suffering with high blood pressure.
You may or may not realize that being obese more than doubles your chances of having high blood pressure otherwise known as hypertension. There has been a great deal of research done on people that are obese and those studies have proven that more than 70% of people that are obese, suffer with higher blood pressure than those who do not. Keeping your weight in check is a good start to keeping your blood pressure under control.
High blood pressure is now on the rise in children as more and more are suffering with obesity. Studies show that it can take up to ten years for an obese child to develop high blood pressure once they become obese. Obesity is known as one of the biggest factors to produce high blood pressure in young adults and it has been shown that if you are more than twenty percent over weight that you will be eight times more susceptible to having high blood pressure.
If you are overweight and you suffer with high blood pressure then you should seek the advice of your trusted physician. Your first plan of action should be to loose weight and get some exercise routines into your daily schedule. Just getting up and moving around will give your body some much needed exercise and will be the start to get your weight and your blood pressure under control.
While many people will be prescribed medication to help control their blood pressure they can also do some things on their own to help lower their blood pressure. You may want to look into changing your diet as certain foods can trigger a reaction that can raise your blood pressure. You may also want to look at the fluids that you put into your body such as alcohol, as these types of drinks can also raise your blood pressure.
Your doctor can help you decide the best plan of action to take regarding your personal condition. Whether you need medication to help control the blood pressure or you need a diet and exercise plan to help you lower your weight, your doctor will help you do what is right for you.
